Read-A-Thon FAQs

What are the dates of the Read-a-Thon?                                                October 1 - 31, 2022

How does it work?
During the month of October, students use the Reading Log to record minutes they read while collecting donations from family and friends to support their efforts. The goal is for each student to read at least 20 minutes every day and raise at least $100 each.

What reading counts?
Any time you spend reading counts. Students who are not reading independently should include the minutes they are read to by an adult. Audio books do count.

How do I set-up my Reading Log?
To access for the first time:
  1. Go to this link to access the Reading Log: https://forms.gle/ttGSucYCdtvEazf98
  2. Enter your email, student name, and select their teacher
  3. Click “Next”
  4. Enter any minutes the student has read so far
  5. Click “Submit”
  6. Your confirmation will provide a link to access the Reading Log for weekly updates
  7. Final Reading Logs must be submitted on or before November 2 to be eligible for prizes

How do I collect donations?
Read-a-Thon is online this year: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/ossread2022

Each student will set-up an individual pledge page which can be sent to family and friends to support their efforts. We encourage students to utilize the online pledge page to collect donations whenever possible.

How do I set-up my student pledge page?
  1. Go to: https://app.99pledges.com/fund/ossread2022/addme
  2. Enter student first name and last initial, contact email, and choose teacher
  3. Click “add”
  4. The page is created automatically and you are ready to go!

Are donations per minute or a flat amount?
Donations will be a flat amount, not a per minute pledge.

What about cash/checks?
Again, we strongly encourage the use of the online donation pages. However, if you receive cash/check, place it in an envelope clearly labeled “Read-a-Thon” with the student and teacher name. Return it to your homeroom teacher.

Is fundraising required?
No. Fundraising is encouraged, but it is not required to participate.

What is the final date to submit my Reading Log and donations?
To qualify for prizes, the Reading Log and donations must be received by November 2, 2022.
