Thursday, May 27, 2021 “As you navigate through the rest of your life, be open to collaboration. Other people and other people's ideas are often better than your own," Amy Poehler told Harvard's class of 2011. Dear Ocean Shore Families, I'm keeping it short and sweet. I'm thinking a lot about graduations right now, probably because Clara graduated from Terra Nova yesterday, and probably because I'm thinking ahead to saying goodbye to our 8th graders two weeks from today. Graduation speeches are often boring and long. How many different ways can you tell young people to work hard, follow their passions, pursue lifelong education, and not be afraid to fail? Also, graduates only really care about what their peers have to say, not what the boring "old" (anyone over 30) principal tells them regarding being the future or having the courage to make a difference in the world. Amy Poehler's quote resonates with me because we live in a time of contention; national politics is polarized and anonymity on social media allows people to "say" things that they would never attach their names to or say in person. We have to be willing to listen to others--really listen--and be willing to change our minds or to compromise in order to move forward. THAT is an important lesson for our graduates and ourselves. Take care, and enjoy the three-day weekend! (There is no school this Monday, May 31st. ) Jeanne Shout out to: all the men and women who have given their lives in the service of our country, and to all of those that are currently serving. Memorial Day is for them. School Business Hybrid Instructional Calendar - * TOMORROW* May 28th is an A day for 4-8th grade. May 28th will be an in-person instructional day for the B group in grades TK-3rd grade and the A group in grades 4-8th grade. Since 4-8th grade began in-person instruction with the B group, there were 3 more in-person instructional days. By taking one of those days and changing it to an A group instructional day, there is only one more in-person instructional day for the B group.
