Friday, March 12, 2021 Quote of the week: "The show must go on!" --Patty McNally (Well, actually it can be traced back to the circus industry in the 1800's, but still...) Dear Ocean Shore Families, I think about Patty McNally every day. She was a mentor to me, and the fact that she supported hiring me as Ocean Shore's principal sustains me on the days that I feel like I'm not up to this challenging job, in this crazy, difficult year. Next week we will celebrate her life by exploring the theme of teamwork. All teachers throughout the district are encouraged to participate in lessons surrounding what it means to be a good team member. The week will end with a district-wide team spirit day on Friday, March 19th. It's only fitting that next week is also multicultural week at Ocean Shore. There will be activities during the school day for students, and we have our Multicultural Night on Patty's birthday, 3/17 @ 6:15 pm. There are supply bags for diversity week for all OSS students (including FYDL) that are available for pick up today and into next week. Please see the blurb below and the attached flier for more information. Let's all channel our inner Patty and focus on ways we can be good teammates to our family, friends, and fellow community members! Take care, Jeanne Shout out of the week: This week's shout-out goes to Sophie Korn who decided today to do an impromptu food/supply drive in Patty's honor. Ocean Shore will be collecting food and supplies that the Pacifica Resource Center needs right now. Please drop off any of the following items to Ocean Shore between Mon. 3/15 & Fri. 3/19: hearty canned soups/chilli, spam or other canned meats/proteins, cup of noodles/instant noodles, diapers in size: 2, 5 or 6. Please make sure that the food items are not expired and the diapers are unopened. Containers will be near the front door. Thank you! Spring Forward: Don't forget that we set the clock back this Sunday @ 2:00 am. Monday morning will feel extra early, but I know I will enjoy the extra hour of sunshine in the evening. Plus, it means that summer is coming! School Business: Return to School Update: I will have one next week. Conference week is 3/15/21-32/19/21. These conferences are for students that are struggling or per parent request. All days will be minimum days. However, some afternoon enrichment activities, such as 3-5 music, will still be offered. Multicultural Night: Join the Ocean Shore Community as we celebrate OSS’s environment of inclusion. In addition to age-appropriate virtual class activities, we will be welcoming a wide range of guest presenters on Tuesday and Thursday. We will also celebrate together as a community with Multicultural Night on Wednesday, March 17 at 6:15. Special Guests include: Sarah & Ian Hoffman, authors of Jacob’s New Dress and Jacob’s Room to Choose and the forthcoming Jacob’s School Play: Starring He, She, and They! Folio Books will be donating 10% of sales of any of the three Jacob books purchased before March 18th to Ocean Shore School! https://www.foliosf.com/sarah-ian-hoffman-march-2021 Vincent Medina & Louis Trevino, Founders of mak-’amham/Cafe’ Ohlone cafe ohlone — mak-'amham Hip Hop for Change, Social justice and positive self-expression through the history of Hip Hop evolution, music, and culture.
